Sports medicine specialist Dr. Brian Freeto served as Medical Director for the Wine Country 1/2 Marathon on July 18, 2010. Dr. Freeto managed the on-site medical team including: Dr. Andrew Fenton (QVMC); nurses Oscar Cortez, Cynthia Spillane, and Junida Bagtas (QVMC); and Eric Ewig (Eric Ewig Physical Therapy), Rob & Cory (Napa Valley Physical Therapy), and Steve Jones, personal trainer.

Starting at Cuvaison Estate Winery, over 3,000 1/2 Marathon runners cruised through the Carneros wine country to the finish line at Sonoma Plaza. Race beneficiaries include: the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation; Hanna Boys Center; and Sonoma middle schools. The Wine Country 1/2 Marathon is nationally accredited and thus draws world-class running talent — this year Tesfaye Sendeku of Ethiopia won by smashing the course record with a time of 1 hour, 3 minutes, 58 seconds.

Congratulations to our volunteer Medical Team supporting the Wine Country 1/2 Marathon– it was a sold-out event, and all the runners’ medical needs were taken care of quickly and safely. The race producer described the Medical Team as “exceptional” in terms of preparedness and professionalism. Dr. Freeto and NVOMG are proud to be involved with this event, and we thank all of our volunteers for their support!
